VLT, or Visible Light Transmission, actually means how much light passes through the lens. The higher the VLT, the lighter the shade of the lens. Good lighting conditions (bright and sunny) require a low VLT and poor lighting conditions (overcast, morning, early evening) require a higher VLT.
