Leichi Skyhigh is a range of lightweight, fast-action fly rods covering a wide variety of fishing styles, from delicate small-stream trout fishing to stillwater fishing, streamer fishing and targeting larger fish. The individual models have clearly different purposes, allowing you to choose anything from a short #3 rod for small streams to more powerful #6, #7 and #8 models for larger flies, stillwaters and stronger fish.

The rods are built on five-layer blanks made from Japanese high-modulus TORAYCA carbon. The fast action is complemented by lightweight components, titanium Recoil stripping guides, a quality cork handle and a traditional cork reel seat.

Key Benefits

  • Wide range of applications: seven models cover small streams, trout rivers, streamer fishing, stillwaters and larger fish.
  • Fast action: provides a direct response when casting and efficient control of the fly line according to the selected rod model.
  • High-modulus TORAYCA carbon: the five-layer blank construction combines two inner layers of 40T carbon with an outer 46T carbon layer.
  • Low weight: the 7'6" #3 weighs only 52 g, while the 8'4" #3 weighs 68 g.
  • Titanium Recoil stripping guides: lightweight stripping guides are combined with chrome-plated snake guides.
  • Cork handle and reel seat: the traditional cork design is complemented by anodised aluminium reel fittings.
  • A model for different fishing situations: each version can be selected according to the type of water, fishing technique and target fish.

Which Leichi Skyhigh Should You Choose?

The individual Skyhigh models are designed for very different fishing situations. Choose your rod according to the type of water, fishing technique, size of flies and target fish.

Skyhigh 7'6" #3 – Small Streams and Overgrown Waters

The shortest and lightest model in the range is designed for small streams and rivers. The 230 cm length makes it easier to cast beneath trees and in other places where casting space is limited. At only 52 g, it provides a very light and easy-to-handle setup.

Skyhigh 8'4" #3 – Dry and Wet Fly Fishing on Smaller Rivers

A more versatile trout rod for dry and wet fly fishing on small and medium-sized rivers. The 254 cm length provides more reach than the 7'6" model while maintaining excellent handling. A good choice for anglers looking for a lightweight #3 for traditional river fly fishing.

Skyhigh 9' #4 – Versatile Trout Rod for Larger Rivers

A classic 9' #4 for dry and wet fly fishing on larger trout rivers. The 274 cm length provides more reach and greater versatility than the shorter #3 models. It is a practical choice for anglers looking for a traditional all-round river rod.

Skyhigh 9' #6 – Larger Rivers, Light Streamers and Stillwaters

A more powerful all-round rod for larger rivers and stillwaters. The #6 line weight allows you to combine dry and wet fly fishing with lighter streamers and stillwater fishing. It is suitable for situations where the lighter #3 and #4 trout rods do not provide enough power.

Skyhigh 9' #7 – Stillwater and Streamer Fishing

A more powerful 9' model designed primarily for stillwater and streamer fishing. The #7 line weight provides additional reserve for larger flies and more powerful setups. It is a good choice for anglers who want a versatile #7 but do not require the additional reach of a 10' stillwater rod.

Skyhigh 10' #7 – Stillwater Fishing with Additional Reach

The 10' #7 model is designed for stillwater and streamer fishing where additional reach is useful. The 305 cm length makes it easier to work with longer leaders and typical stillwater setups. Compared with the 9' #7, it is particularly useful when rod length and line control are more important than maximum handling speed. The rod weighs 128 g.

Skyhigh 9' #8 – Pike, Zander and Carp

The most powerful 9' model in the range is designed for larger predatory fish and other strong species. The #8 line weight is suitable for more powerful fly-fishing setups used when targeting pike, zander or carp.

Quick Selection by Fishing Style

  • Small stream, mountain creek and limited casting space: Skyhigh 7'6" #3.
  • Small to medium-sized river, dry and wet fly fishing: Skyhigh 8'4" #3.
  • Larger trout river, versatile dry and wet fly fishing: Skyhigh 9' #4.
  • Larger river, light streamers or versatile stillwater fishing: Skyhigh 9' #6.
  • Stillwater and streamer fishing with easier handling: Skyhigh 9' #7.
  • Stillwater fishing, longer leaders and additional reach: Skyhigh 10' #7.
  • Pike, zander or carp: Skyhigh 9' #8.

Detailed Description

Leichi Skyhigh rods are built on five-layer blanks made from Japanese high-modulus TORAYCA carbon by Toray Industries. The construction combines two inner layers of 40T carbon with an outer 46T carbon layer, resulting in a lightweight and stiff blank with a fast action.

The fast action has a different practical benefit depending on the selected model. On the shorter #3 rods it supports accurate fly presentation and responsive handling on smaller waters. On the more powerful #6 to #8 models it provides the reserve required for larger flies and more powerful fly lines.

The rods feature a transparent olive finish with burgundy wraps. The guide setup combines titanium Recoil stripping guides with chrome-plated snake guides.

The handle is made from quality cork. A traditional cork reel seat is complemented by anodised aluminium reel fittings.

One of the main strengths of the Skyhigh range is the variety of applications offered by the individual models. The short #3 rods are designed for trout fishing on smaller waters, the #4 is a classic river all-rounder, the #6 and #7 models cover more powerful river and stillwater applications, and the #8 is designed for larger fish.

Within the #7 models, the 9' version provides easier handling for streamer and stillwater fishing, while the 10' version adds extra reach for longer leaders and situations where additional line and fly control are useful.

What to Pair the Rod With

Choose your reel and fly line according to the specific Skyhigh model and fishing technique. With the lighter rods, avoid unnecessarily heavy reels. With the #7 and #8 models, reel capacity and sufficient backing become more important.

  • 7'6" #3: lightweight reel and floating #3 fly line for small streams and accurate short-range casting.
  • 8'4" #3: lightweight reel and floating #3 fly line for dry and wet fly fishing.
  • 9' #4: reel and #4 fly line for versatile trout fishing.
  • 9' #6: reel suitable for a #6 line and, depending on your technique, a floating, intermediate or other appropriate line for river or stillwater fishing.
  • 9' #7: reel with sufficient capacity for a #7 fly line and backing, suitable for stillwater and streamer setups.
  • 10' #7: reel with sufficient capacity for a #7 fly line and backing. The longer rod is particularly suitable for stillwater setups where additional reach and longer leaders are useful.
  • 9' #8: reel and #8 fly line with sufficient backing capacity for targeting larger fish.

FAQ

Which Leichi Skyhigh should I choose for a small stream?

Choose the 7'6" #3 for small streams and very restricted casting space. If you want a more versatile rod that can also be used on small and medium-sized rivers, the 8'4" #3 is the better option.

What is the difference between the 7'6" #3 and 8'4" #3?

The 7'6" #3 is shorter, lighter and more specialised for small streams. The 8'4" #3 provides additional reach and is more versatile for dry and wet fly fishing on small and medium-sized rivers.

Which model is the best all-round trout river rod?

For traditional trout fishing on larger rivers, the 9' #4 is the most versatile option. For smaller waters and a more delicate setup, choose the 8'4" #3.

Which Skyhigh should I choose for streamer fishing?

For lighter streamer fishing on larger rivers, choose the 9' #6. For a more powerful streamer setup, choose one of the #7 models. The 9' #7 offers easier handling, while the 10' #7 provides additional reach. The #8 model is designed for larger predatory fish and correspondingly larger flies.

Which model is suitable for stillwater fishing?

For lighter and more versatile stillwater use, choose the 9' #6. The 9' #7 provides additional power while retaining the classic 9' length. The 10' #7 adds extra reach and is particularly useful when fishing longer leaders and stillwater setups.

What is the difference between the 9' #7 and 10' #7?

Both rods are rated #7. The 9' model provides easier handling and is a versatile option for streamer and stillwater fishing. The 10' model adds 31 cm of length, providing additional reach and making it easier to work with longer leaders and control stillwater setups.

Which Skyhigh should I choose for pike or carp?

The 9' #8 is the model in this range designed for larger predatory fish such as pike and zander, as well as targeted fly fishing for carp.

What is the action of the Skyhigh rods?

The Skyhigh range features fast-action blanks made from high-modulus TORAYCA carbon. The practical feel and use of each rod varies significantly according to its length and line weight.
