Detailed tying sequence of the classic wet fly March Brown. Originally the pattern was tied to imitate a large dark mayfly, but today the March Brown is considered to imitate more than one insect species, so you can use it even if you don't see mayflies around the water. It is a versatile pattern for fishing for brown trouts, rainbows or chubs.
Fly tying materials:
Hook: Wet 10 - 14
Thread: Brown
Body: Natura Hare's dubbing
Wing: Hen pheasant wing
Hackle: Brown partridge
Ribbing: Yellow thread
Tail: Brown partridge fibres
Advice on tying the fly: you can replace the yellow thread with yellow wire or golden oval tinsel. If you replace the dubbing of the hare's body with silver tinsel when tying the body, then you will tie a similar pattern Silver March Brown, which can also be used as fry imitation.
