It is intended mainly for vertical fishing, but can also be used for casting. The mormyshka imitates a crustacean or a small fish that has captured prey and is trying to overpower it, triggering feeding aggression and a subsequent strike.

Soft baits such as micro shads, nymphs, worms or their parts, synthetic fibers, foam pieces etc. can be rigged on the mormyshka, as well as dough baits or maggots.
