Essential Fly Selection for River Fishing

When starting with river fly fishing, you do not need to choose a large number of individual patterns. It is more important to have several basic types of flies that allow you to adapt your fishing method to the current conditions and fish activity.

This essential river fly selection contains 12 flies divided equally into three basic categories: nymphs, dry flies and wet flies.

Nymphs are used for fishing below the surface. Dry flies are primarily used when fish are feeding at the surface, while wet flies are fished below the surface and add another useful approach to your river fishing.

By combining these three types of flies, the selection provides a compact foundation for river fly fishing without the need to choose individual flies from a large range of patterns.
